  • The table keeps the score and penalty time

Tournament Play – Pool Play (Saturday Games)

  •  2 – 21 minutes halves
  •  3 minute halftime
  • 3 game guarantee (Pool Play)
  • No Timeouts
  • No Overtime
  • 2025 NFHS Rules with modifications below

Playoff Rules (Sunday)

  •  2 – 21 minutes halves
  • 3 minute halftime
  •  Playoff Games…
  • Teams are awarded (1) one-minute time-out per team in Regulation Time
  • The clock will stop. Timeout does NOT roll over to OT.  No timeouts in OT
  • A timeout can be called when the team calling the timeout is in possession of the ball, anywhere on the field
  • Overtime will begin immediately and be decided by sudden victory.  OT will have a Running Clock on all whistles.  The first goal scored wins the game.
  • Injuries
    • Any injury within 2 minutes and under that requires the game to be stopped, the clock stops with the injury.
    • For any injury with more than 2 minutes remaining when the game is stopped, a maximum of 1 minute will come off the clock to assess the injury before the clock is stopped

BOYS SPECIFIC RULES

  •  No stick checks unless refs think a stick is outrageously illegal
  •  4 pole maximum on the field
  •  Mercy Rule
    • (applies to 2034 and below) Applied when there is a 5-goal deficit in pool play.  Teams down by 5 or more goals will get a free clear after each goal.  Coaches can agree to waive this rule.
  • Counts
    • 30 seconds to advance the ball into the box (Pool Play and Playoffs)
    • 2026 – 2033 Grad Years:  Clearing Counts.
    • No Counts – 2034 Grad Year and below.  Exception is a 4-second goalie count
    • The leading team must keep it in the box under 2 minutes if they are ahead by 4 goals or less.
      • If a score changes to 4 goals or less under 2 minutes, the clock will stop and start with the whistles
      • If teams are ahead by 5 goals or more, the clock will remain running
  • Checking
    • Limited body checking in 2030 – 2034.  Big hits & physical play (even within three yards of a loose ball) constitute unnecessary roughness (90 sec penalty)
    • One-handed stick checks are not allowed in any youth divisions (2034 and below)
  • Penalties
    • Penalties are running time starting on the whistle (45 or 90 seconds)  Penalty time stops during injuries, end of quarters, and while another penalty is being assessed.

EJECTIONS

  • Game ejections are handled by the referees
  • Tournament ejections are handled by the tournament director (2 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties warrant ejection or a 1-game suspension)

RANKINGS:

  • Win = 3 points
  • Loss = 0 points
  • Tie = 1 point
    • In the event that a team needs to play a 4th pool game in order to give a second team their 3rd game:
      •  The 4th game will be identified and acknowledged with a ‘*’ on Tourney Machine
      • The 4th game will not count for any potential points or Goals Against for the team playing their 4th game
      • For the team playing their 3rd game, the results will count for points and goals against
      • In the event that there is a tiebreaker scenario, which includes a teams head-to-head being their fourth game, that has been identified with ‘*’ the head-to-head will NOT be applied.
    • In the event, a team is declared a winner due to forfeit
      • For ranking purposes, the goals against average for the pool play games will be the average of the games that were completed
        • Team A wins, 10-8 and 12-8, and then forfeit is 1–0.  Their average of 8 GA will be used to rank

Tie Breakers

If 2 teams are tied with POINTS:

  1. Head to Head
  2. Goals Against TOTAL
  3. Goals Against Common Opponent.  If multiple common opponents, take the sum.

If more than 2 teams tied with POINTS:

  1. If 1 team beats the other 2 teams – that team will advance and the second 2 will fall back into tiebreaker rules
  2. Goals Against Total
  3. Goals Against Common Opponent (only used if all teams played a common opponent.  If multiple common opponents, take the sum)
  4. Coin Toss/Braveheart
    1. If a team is still tied after these tie-breakers and is eligible for the championship playoff bracket, a Braveheart may be used to determine who advances.  The tournament director will determine the scheduling of a braveheart based on fields and availability

ROSTERING

  • All players must be registered and can only play for 1 team, unless approved by the event director, in each event.
  • Unregistered players are considered ineligible for play and if found may result in a team forfeiting games and player ejection from the event.

Any teams who are found moving players or playing with ineligible players may forfeit that game and possibly any others already played.

TOURNAMENT POLICIES

All participants are expected to read the official policies prior to arriving onsite

REFUNDS & MORE

  • All deposits are non-refundable & non-transferrable
  • If a team pulls out within 30 days of an event start date, no refunds or credits will be given
  • If a team pulls out 30 days or more from an event start date, deposits will be lost & remaining funds paid will be turned into credits
  • Credits are only eligible for 1 year from the event date. They will be added to the club director/admin’s Legends League Apps Account to be used at a future event of your choice. Credits will expire from the account 1 year from the event date.
  • No refunds will be issued if the tournament is cancelled or shortened for any reason, including inclement weather or any other force majeure
  • At our Showcase events, players may receive a full refund for injuries if a valid doctor’s note is provided

WEATHER

  • Legends reserves the right to cancel, shorten, convert format and/or reschedule tournament games due to inclement weather, poor field conditions, or player and fan safety concerns. No refunds will be granted if these actions are necessary.
  • If we need to pause play due to weather, every attempt will be made to update the changes and/or cancellations through the Legends event website. We will also use our on site staff to communicate directly to people on the ground if possible. Given the weather can change rapidly, and all teams should be prepared to play as soon as the weather clears and fields are playable.

LIGHTNING POLICY

  • In the event that lightning is detected either visually onsite or via radar, all play will be suspended immediately.  Players and spectators will be directed to leave the fields and seek safe shelter. Play will be allowed to resume 30 minutes after the last sight of lightning is observed.
  • Every effort will be made to begin the remaining games on time if we incur any delays. This includes shortening game times and removing the 4 minute warm-up period between games (next games begin immediately after one ends; teams can warm up on sidelines). Once games are back on time, we will resume to standard 21 min halves + 4 minutes between games.
  • If lightning occurs in the 2nd half of a game, that game will be considered final and the score at the time of stoppage will be recorded as final
  • If lightning occurs in the first half, when play resumes it will be the start of the second half
  • If lightning occurs in the first half & we are unable to resume play, two things may happen…
    • Legends may attempt to reschedule the game for early the next day.
    • If unable to resume at any point, whoever is in the lead will be given the win and the score will be recorded as 1-0 in Tourney Machine. *If this happens in pool play, for rankings purposes, the Goals Against for both teams will be recorded as the avg GA of the teams’ other games played.

ROSTERS, WAIVERS & PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

  • League Apps will act as the default team roster. All players participating in Legends events must be registered as a player on League Apps for one team and can only play with that team for the duration of the tournament.
  • Only registered players who agree to and complete the waiver may participate in tournament games. Player waivers are built into online player registration in League Apps.
  • Teams may not move or transfer players between teams within or outside of the club regardless of eligibility; i.e. players cannot play for more than one team. Any exception must be submitted to the Tournament Director and approved before tournament play begins.
  • For HS divisions - eligibility is based on current grad year
  • For Youth divisions - eligibility is based on both current grad year & also birth date. Players must meet both qualifications to be eligible.
  • Players may play up, but not down. If playing up, they must only play up as they are not allowed to play for two teams.
  • Violations to roster/waiver/player eligibility rules may result in the individual being removed from the event + their team forfeiting games and/or playoff status.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY PROCEDURE

  • Player eligibility challenge will only be accepted by Club Directors or Head Coach
  • When there is a player in question during a game…
    • The director/coach must direct their roster check request to the field marshall sitting at midfield.
    • The Field Marshall will alert the Pod Manager and provide the pod manager with Team Name, Player first and Last Name, Player Jersey #
    • The Pod manager will relay info to HQ for registration check
    • HQ will review League Apps registration
    • If a player is registered & within the age/grad guidelines - challenge denied
    • If a player is not registered but within age/grad guidelines - player is suspended until they are registered on League Apps by a parent
    • If a player is registered & outside age/grad guidelines - the player is removed from play immediately & the game will continue to be played. Tournament Director holds sole discretion on future eligibility of player & potential forfeit for the team in violation.
    • If a player is not registered & outside age/grad guidelines - the player is removed from play immediately & the game will continue to be played. Tournament Director holds sole discretion on future eligibility of player & potential forfeit for the team in violation.

DIVISIONS & SCHEDULING

  • Legends reserves the right to consolidate or combine any/all divisions as needed
  • Legends reserves the right to adjust the event schedule at any point. We will always communicate any schedule adjustments ASAP to affected clubs.

  • By checking off on the tournament waiver, participants agree that their child’s image may be edited, copied, published or distributed and waive the right to approve.
  • Participants waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising or related to the use of their image or recording.
